JobStreet.com will cap its Career Congress 2012 Season with a high note through the Career Congress 2012 for Student Leaders at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.

Themed Level Up! Preparing our Future Workforce Leaders, the event will gather 5,000 student leaders from different colleges and universities in Metro Manila and other nearby provinces in Luzon. Top schools that have confirmed attendance to the event include Ateneo de Manila University, University of Sto. Tomas, University of the Philippines, Polytechnic University of the Philippines and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, to name a few.

These youth leaders representing student councils and major student organizations will have the opportunity to listen to celebrity role models and industry representatives who shall discuss the skills and attitudes needed to jumpstart and succeed in one’s career. Aside from this, the event shall have more than 100 employers’ representatives who will act as the delegates’ career mentors. These representatives have pledged to conduct resume screenings and mock interview sessions and entertain internship applications as their support to the Congress’ objective of increasing the employability of the Filipino youth.

The Power of Knowing Matters

This year’s Student Leaders’ Leg will begin with a keynote speech by the executive director and chief executive officer of Rappler, Ms. Maria Ressa. It is expected that Ressa will focus on the importance of understanding the power of social networking, how it has been shaping people’s behaviors and the environment as a whole. Ms. Ressa heads Rappler.com, a social news network which uses a “hearts and minds approach” to news through a unique mood navigator. A Princeton University graduate, she is also an award-winning international journalist who has worked as CNN’s news bureau chief in Manila before handling the News and Current Affairs of the country’s media giant, ABS-CBN Corporation.

As this year’s Congress is inspired by Dr. Sun Tzu’s Art of War, most of the talks will discuss on the importance of Knowing Oneself and the Environment. To inspire the youth to know more about themselves- their strengths, weaknesses and passions – and use these to their advantage, JobStreet.com has invited TV5 news and current affairs personality and former Radioactive Sago band member, Mr. Lourd de Veyra.

keynote address during the commencement exercises of the University of the Philippines-Diliman College of Mass Communications created quite a stir among the “iskolar ng bayan” as he hurled the challenge to these young people to remain “informed” or “knowledgeable” at all times.

Meanwhile, beauty queen and architecture board topnotcher, Ms. Shamcey Supsup, will also grace the event to share her journey towards fulfilling her dream career. Supsup who wowed the world in 2011 when she joined the Miss Universe, became an early favorite at the pageant because of her stand out beauty and intelligence. She eventually emerged as the beauty contest’s third runner up.
